Research Promotion
The University of Tokyo proactively promotes collaborative research, entrusted research,
and other cutting-edge forms of collaborative research with private companies.
We support private companies in applying University research and offer proactive support
regarding activities related to internal and external collaborative research.
Collaborative Research
In collaborative research, University faculty and researchers from private companies jointly
research a common topic as equal partners. Collaborative research is usually conducted at
University facilities with researchers and funding provided by the partners,
but it is possible for our faculty to engage in research off-campus.
We are also open to conducting shared collaborative research,
in which researchers from both parties do their work in their own laboratories.

Entrusted Research
In entrusted research, our faculty researchers conduct research on themes requested by private companies and agreed upon by the University. The research results are reported to the private companies.
