- Operation of the Commercialization Promotion Program for Research Results
The following programs are being developed to implement and put for business into practical use the results of research at our university. Our office supports the progress of empirical research by handling the procedures for soliciting and selecting applications, and by providing information and advice after selection. In addition, we are working to promote collaboration with companies to create businesses so that these results can be effectively implemented in society.
The University of Tokyo GAP Fund Program This is an internal grant system to promote the implement of research results for business. We provide necessary subsidies and advices for implementation projects undertaken by researchers at our university with the aim of verifying and improving the practicality of research results (PoC = Proof of Concept) with a view to commercialization.
- Strategic Partnership (Cross-disciplinary Industry-Academia Collaboration)
All research at the University of Tokyo is the subject of collaboration, and the university's project managers coordinate the collaboration, deeply fusing the university's cutting-edge scientific research capabilities with the knowledge of companies to create new research projects.
- Startup Community Support Project (uTIE Membership)
To create university-originated venture businesses, it is important to have a virtuous cycle of intellectual property, human resources, and funds among the four parties: universities, startups, large companies, and investors/funders. This can be seen as an ecosystem. The University of Tokyo has been promoting activities to create university-originated venture businesses, and in February 2019, it created the brand logo for this ecosystem, uTIE (University, Tokyo, Innovation, Entrepreneurship), and is carrying out various activities to develop it. As part of these activities, we have launched a community membership system: uTIE Membership (uTIE Connect) to promote further collaboration between University of Tokyo-related startups and large companies.
Through the community of University of Tokyo-related startups and large companies, we aim to promote collaboration, accelerating the growth of startups, and promoting innovation and the creation of new businesses for large companies. Through this membership system, we are building and encouraging a platform to stimulate exchanges and collaboration between the two parties.
- Disseminating the seeds of industry-academia collaboration within the university
We operate the University of Tokyo's seeds database, "University of Tokyo University of Industry-Academia Collaboration (UCR) Proposal," and disseminate collaboration proposals from researchers at the university and research results that lead to commercialization. If you are a company or local government organization interested in using these seeds to create businesses and implement them in society, you can submit a collaboration request from this site. Our department will act as a bridge between you and the researchers and support the creation of new collaborative research and business partnerships.
We will continue to actively engage in various activities to ensure that the results of our university's research are fused with the diverse resources of companies and local communities, resulting in social innovation. We appreciate your continued guidance and encouragement.
